Iga Świątek, the current leader in women’s tennis, began her Australian Open campaign with a win. The Polish tennis player secured a victory in straight sets against American Sofia Kenin, who is ranked 41st in the WTA.

The match extended close to two hours, with the outcome of the first set determined in a tie-break that Świątek won. In the second set, Świątek managed to secure two breaks, sealing the win.

Iga Świątek, who has never claimed a Major title in Melbourne throughout her career, achieved her best result at this tournament with a semi-final appearance in 2022. As of now, the Polish tennis player boasts four Grand Slam victories: French Open in 2020, French Open in 2022, French Open in 2023, and US Open in 2022.

In the first round of the Australian Open, Świątek faced American Sofia Kenin, emerging victorious with a scoreline of 7:6, 6:2. Her upcoming opponent in the tournament is another American, Danielle Rose Collins, currently ranked 62nd in the WTA standings.
