Iga Swiatek Continues Stuttgart Success with Quarter-Final Berth

Iga Swiatek, the world number one and defending champion, showcased her clay-court prowess once again by securing a spot in the quarter-finals of the WTA Stuttgart tournament. Swiatek defeated Elise Mertens in straight sets, extending her unbeaten streak at the event to nine matches. Her victory keeps her on track to claim a third consecutive title in Stuttgart, a feat that would earn her a third luxury car from the sponsors, adding to her collection after winning the tournament in 2022.

In her post-match comments, Swiatek humorously remarked, “There’s always space for a Porsche. If not, we’ll make it. I’ll build an underground garage.” The Polish star dominated the opening set, establishing a 5-1 lead before facing a brief challenge from Mertens. However, Swiatek held her nerve to close out the set. Despite being broken early in the second set, Swiatek showcased her resilience, eventually sealing the win with a forehand winner on her fourth match point.
