Sinner’s French Open in Doubt Due to Hip Injury

World No. 2 Jannik Sinner (22) casts a shadow over his French Open participation, prioritizing full recovery from a hip injury over the tournament.

Sinner sustained the injury during the Madrid Open, forcing him to withdraw from his quarter-final match and subsequently skip the Rome Open.

Initial assessments underestimated the injury’s severity. “At Roland Garros, I’ll only play if I’m 100% fit,” Sinner declared. “We’ll have to see if there are any doubts.”

Sinner acknowledges the unpredictability of injuries. “Some are preventable, others aren’t. We’ve had a good run so far – a full injury-free season last year and most of this season too.”

The Italian prioritizes his health over the upcoming Grand Slam, which begins on May 26th. “There’ll be a period without playing now,” Sinner said. “We’ll assess how to proceed next week onwards.”

“French Open preparation won’t be ideal,” he admitted. “We’ll do everything to arrive in the best possible shape, but missing Rome makes Grand Slam competition difficult.”

Medical scans revealed a lingering issue. “The MRI showed something isn’t quite right,” Sinner explained. “We’re managing it, but if it doesn’t fully heal, I’ll take a longer break. Taking care of my body is paramount.”
