In the 1/16 finals of the 2024 Australian Open, Jannik Sinner from Italy (seeded 4th) faced off against Sebastian Baez from Argentina (seeded 29th), resulting in a convincing victory for Sinner with a scoreline of 6-0, 6-1, 6-3.

This marked their second encounter, with Sinner previously defeating Baez 2-1 at the start of the 2023 Shanghai Masters. Sinner’s best performance on Melbourne courts was reaching the quarterfinals in 2022.

Jannik Sinner became the first male singles tennis player to advance to the Round of 16 in the Australian Open 2024. In the next round, he will face the winner of the match between Karen Khachanov and Tomasz Machac.
