Despite withdrawing from her opening match at Indian Wells due to illness, where she was the defending champion, Rybakina’s triumph in Miami marks her eighth quarter-final appearance in her last ten WTA 1000 events.

In other early women’s action, Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan emerged victorious over Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina, the 32nd seed, in a hard-fought contest.

Sakkari, originally slated to compete in the day’s opening match, received an unexpected advancement into the quarter-finals as Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya withdrew from their fourth-round encounter due to health concerns. Kalinskaya’s journey to the round of 16 in Miami was characterized by impressive victories over Wang Xiyu of China and Latvian ninth seed Jelena Ostapenko.
