The 1/32 finals match at the 2024 Australian Open between Iga Swiatek (Poland, WTA 1) and Danielle Collins (USA, WTA 62) concluded with a 6:4, 3:6, 6:4 victory for Swiatek. Following the match, 30-year-old Collins held a press conference where she announced her decision to retire from professional tennis.

“I believe I’ve had a fulfilling career with its share of highs and lows. The challenges of travel and various off-court demands, especially scheduling, make tennis an incredibly demanding sport.

I have other aspirations in my life beyond tennis, and I would like the time and opportunity to pursue them. Family, particularly focusing on kids, is a top priority for me.

This upcoming season will be my last. While I’m not certain about the exact endpoint, I’m eagerly anticipating the remaining competitions,” stated Collins.

In 2022, Danielle Collins defeated Swiatek in the semi-finals of the Australian Open, eventually reaching the final where she lost to Ashleigh Barty. Collins achieved her highest WTA ranking of seventh. Throughout her career, the American secured two WTA titles and earned a total of 6.7 million dollars.
