Ryoyu Kobayashi secures the overall victory in the Four Hills Tournament, becoming the sixth man to achieve this feat
Without taking first place in any of the stages, Ryoyu Kobayashi was proclaimed the Three Hills Tournament King for the third time.
The Japanese gained notoriety in 2019 when he became the third ski jumper in history to win every round of the competition. In 2022, he won three of the four stages to reclaim the title.
This time, the 27-year-old took home the Golden Eagle trophy without taking first place in the crucial finale at Bischofshofen or in Oberstdorf, Garmisch, or Innsbruck.
Kobayashi won the 72nd Vierschanzentournee, rewarding himself for his consistency after finishing second in all four tournaments.
With two leaps of 137 and 139 meters, Kobayashi finished second overall with 287.6 points. Due to this, he managed to stay ahead of Andreas Wellinger, who finished first at Oberstdorf with 1145.2 points against the German’s 1120.7.
Kobayashi told 24hscore, “I’m happy.” “There were too many things going on today, but I focused on jumping and felt satisfied.”
Stefan Kraft of Austria, the world’s best form jumper, emerged victorious on that particular day. Kraft’s dramatic victory, his 36th World Cup victory, came after a huge 140-meter leap on his second try. It also secured him third place overall.
The larger World Cup picture was further skewed in Kraft’s favor by his victory. This season, the 30-year-old has won six of the 12 events, giving him a dominating lead of 909 points over Wellinger, who is in second place with 697.
The World Cup tour will now begin its swing through Poland in six days, beginning in Wisla. Kamil Stoch, the top Polish finisher in the Four Hills, placed fifteenth.
