Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius has been released from prison early for the murder of his girlfriend, as reported by the BBC. On Friday, January 5th, the South African athlete was already at home in the morning. In the early hours of February 14, 2013, Pistorius fired four shots through the bathroom door at his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, a 29-year-old lawyer and well-known fashion model. During the trial, Pistorius claimed he mistook his girlfriend for an intruder, a common occurrence in South Africa. The court accepted his explanation and convicted him of culpable homicide, sentencing him to 5.5 years. However, in 2015, the prosecution appealed, leading the Supreme Court to review the case.

After more investigation, it became clear that Pistorius had altered his account of what happened several times that morning and had fired without having a good reason to fear for his life. In the end, he received a murder conviction. 24hscore

He is prohibited from speaking with the media until 2029, when his sentence is set to expire. He reportedly made his home in an affluent district of the city of South Africa, the home of his uncle, Arnold Pistorius.
