Lisowski begins his Masters campaign by strolling by Brecel, while Murphy watches
Jack Lisowski, aged 32, kicked off his Masters campaign at Alexandra Palace with a dominant 6-2 victory over 28-year-old world champion Luca Brecel. Lisowski secured a 4-0 lead by the interval, propelled by three breaks over 50 and a century, putting Brecel in a challenging position.
Although the second seed Brecel won two in response, his comeback was short-lived as Lisowski claimed the final two frames with breaks of 63 and 68. Lisowski will now face Shaun Murphy or Zhang Anda in the quarter-final. 24hscore
“I felt great,” Lisowski shared with the BBC after the win. “You never know what it will be like coming out here. I started well straight away and felt like I couldn’t miss it. Just in rhythm, had a bit of luck at the end, a really good break, brilliant.”
Although Lisowski has had a challenging campaign thus far, he feels that his form has improved after making it to the final of an exhibition event in Macau over the Christmas break.
“I think I found something in China,” he said. “I felt great, so I think something happened in China. Thank god because I was really struggling. To be honest, I was really scared to come here today because I didn’t know what Jack was going to turn up.”
“You can get really nervous coming into this, for me it’s the scariest tournament to play in and I just started well and it turned into a great place to play, I started enjoying it.”
Murphy advances
Shaun Murphy (41) of the world ranking easily defeated Zhang Anda (32) of China 6-2 in the day’s second match.
In the quarterfinals, Murphy and Lisowski will play each other.
