UFC 299 is set to feature a highly anticipated matchup between Dustin Poirier and Benoit “God of War” St. Denis
UFC 299 will feature a lightweight bout between Dustin Poirier and Benoit St. Denis, as confirmed by Dane White.
The UFC president announced that the bout would happen in Miami on March 9. Additionally, Marlon Vera and Sean O’Malley will square off in the evening’s marquee battle.
Let us highlight that the 34-year-old fighter known as “Diamond,” Dustin Poirier, is set to step into the Octagon for the first time since his knockout defeat in July of the previous year. In that bout, Justin Gaethje secured victory with a high kick to the head during the second round of the UFC 291 main event. This marked Poirier’s sole fight in 2023. In the preceding year, the American had one notable performance, defeating compatriot Michael Chandler with a rear-naked choke in the third round.
On the other hand, the 28-year-old fighter nicknamed the “God of War,” St. Denis, is currently riding a five-fight winning streak following his initial loss in his UFC debut. His defeat came via a points decision against Eliseu Zaleski in October 2021. In 2023, Benoit St. Denis secured three victories, triumphing over Brazilians Ismael Bonfim and Thiago Moises, as well as American Matt Frevola. Impressively, all of these victories concluded ahead of schedule.
