Tiger Woods and Top Golfers Confirmed for 106th PGA Championship
The lineup for the 106th PGA Championship at Valhalla was revealed on Tuesday, featuring golf legend Tiger Woods and the world’s top 103 ranked players. Despite facing physical challenges due to severe leg injuries from a 2021 car accident, Woods, a 15-time major champion, remains determined to compete. His recent 60th-place finish at the Masters demonstrated his resilience, and he aims to maintain a tournament schedule, eyeing appearances at the upcoming US and British Opens.
While Woods is currently ranked 801, he has received a special invitation to the US Open next month, highlighting his enduring significance in the sport. Although he withdrew from the PGA Championship after three rounds in 2022 due to injury, he returns this year with renewed determination, having skipped the event last year following ankle surgery.
Valhalla holds special memories for both Woods and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, who have each claimed PGA Championship titles at the prestigious venue. Woods emerged victorious in 2000, while McIlroy secured his fourth major triumph in 2014.
The field comprises 33 major winners, including 16 former PGA Championship champions, showcasing the event’s rich history and prestige. Notably, the inclusion of top-ranked Scottie Scheffler adds to the excitement, although he will miss this week’s PGA Tour event to support his wife during childbirth.
Defending champion Brooks Koepka leads a contingent of 16 players from the LIV Golf League, adding intrigue to the tournament. Among them are notable figures like Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, and Patrick Reed, bringing depth and competitiveness to the field.
Several other major winners, including Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson, and Dustin Johnson, will also feature in the championship, underscoring the caliber of talent on display. Additionally, American Talor Gooch, last year’s LIV season champion, secured his fifth consecutive invitation, aiming to improve upon his past performances.
The diverse field includes 21 club professionals, 20 qualifiers, and returning contender Michael Block, who impressed with a share of 15th place last year. As anticipation builds for the event in Louisville, Kentucky, golf enthusiasts eagerly await the clash of titans and the emergence of new stars on the grand stage of the PGA Championship.
