Rory McIlroy expressed his sentiments on Tuesday, stating that winning at Pebble Beach and standing with a trophy on the 18th green used to symbolize triumph over the best players in the world. However, with players like Tyrrell Hatton, currently ranked 16th in the Official World Golf Rankings, making the move to LIV Golf, the dynamics have shifted. Hatton is the latest addition to LIV Golf, having joined Jon Rahm’s team after Rahm’s departure for LIV Golf late last year.

McIlroy revealed that he had a conversation with Hatton on Sunday regarding Hatton’s choice to join LIV Golf, and much like he was with Rahm, McIlroy was supportive. This reflects a notable shift in McIlroy’s stance from just a few months ago.

Initially, they had set a deadline to complete this by the end of 2023, but it was indefinitely extended when no deal was reached on time.

There are reports suggesting that the PGA Tour is nearing a $3 billion investment deal with Strategic Sports Group. However, the specific involvement of the Public Investment Fund (PIF) and LIV Golf in this investment, and the implications for the future partnership, remain unclear. Despite Rory McIlroy no longer being part of the decision-making process, having stepped down from the Tour’s board last year, he expresses eagerness for the completion of the deal between the PGA Tour and Strategic Sports Group.

“I believe this matter could have been resolved months ago,” McIlroy expressed. “I think, for everyone’s benefit, the sooner we navigate through it and establish a clear path forward, the better.”

In the previous Tour season, McIlroy secured two victories – first at The CJ Cup in October and then at the Genesis Scottish Open. Although he fell short of winning a major championship once again, a drought spanning a decade, McIlroy closed the season impressively with top-10 finishes in his last 10 starts.
