Lewis names Creamer

Stacy Lewis Appoints Creamer, Lincicome, Pressel, and Stanford as Solheim Cup Assistants

US Solheim Cup captain Stacy Lewis, aged 39, announced on Tuesday the appointment of major champions Morgan Pressel, Angela Stanford, Paula Creamer, and Brittany Lincicome as her assistants for the upcoming Solheim Cup in Gainesville, Virginia, scheduled for September.

Creamer and Lincicome are stepping into the role of assistants for the first time, while Pressel and Stanford previously served alongside Lewis during the 2023 Solheim Cup in Andalusia, Spain, where Europe clinched its third consecutive victory in the prestigious women’s golf team event.

Expressing her enthusiasm for the appointments, former world number one Lewis remarked, “These four individuals bring a wealth of experience and passion for the Solheim Cup, in addition to being my close friends and major champions. I am thrilled to have them in this role and to mentor them as potential future captains.”

Creamer, a distinguished figure with ten LPGA Tour victories, attained major success at the 2010 U.S. Women’s Open. Her Solheim Cup journey began as an LPGA Tour rookie in 2005 at the age of 19, making her the youngest player in the event’s history at the time. Creamer has represented the US in seven Solheim Cups and holds the record for the most foursomes wins by an American player, with seven victories to her name.

Upon receiving the invitation to join Lewis’s team, Creamer expressed her eagerness, stating, “When Stacy approached me to be part of her Solheim Cup team, I eagerly accepted. My seven appearances in the Solheim Cup have been among the highlights of my career, and I look forward to creating more memories while collaborating with Stacy.”

Lincicome, with top-10 finishes in all five LPGA Tour major championships and titles at the 2009 and 2015 Chevron Championships, brings a wealth of experience to the role. Her six appearances in the Solheim Cup include an impressive partnership with Brittany Lang, resulting in four wins out of four matches. Reflecting on her appointment, Lincicome described it as “one of the greatest honors of my career.”

Pressel, a six-time Solheim Cup competitor, boasts a remarkable record, notably securing a perfect 4-0-0 record in 2011 and clinching the winning point in 2009 with a 3-and-2 victory over Anna Nordqvist.

Similarly, Stanford, with six Solheim Cup appearances, played a pivotal role in securing victory in 2015 with her decisive 2-and-1 victory over Suzann Pettersen. Both Pressel and Stanford were teammates with Lewis in multiple Solheim Cup editions.

This year’s Solheim Cup, scheduled for September 13th-15th, marks a significant event in women’s golf. The decision to move the tournament to even years starting in 2024 was made by the Solheim Cup Committee, aligning with the Ryder Cup’s odd-year schedule following the postponement of the 2020 competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
