Knee Injury Forces Scotland’s Lyndon Dykes Out of Euro 2024

Scotland’s forward Lyndon Dykes has been sidelined from Euro 2024 due to a knee injury sustained during a training session, dealing a blow to Scotland’s preparations for the upcoming tournament in Germany.

The 28-year-old striker suffered the injury on Friday, and subsequent scans have confirmed that he will not be fit in time for the Euros. With nine goals in 36 caps, Dykes’ absence comes as a setback for Scotland’s head coach Steve Clarke, occurring just two weeks before the tournament commences.

The Scottish Football Association expressed their disappointment over Dykes’ injury, acknowledging his importance to the team while wishing him a speedy recovery in a statement released on Saturday.

As a result of Dykes’ absence, Clarke will have to rely on Che Adams and Lawrence Shankland as his primary forward options, with Ben Doak also included in the provisional squad. However, Clarke may consider uncapped players like Tommy Conway from Bristol City or Ross Stewart from Southampton, who has recently returned from a lengthy injury spell.

With the final squad deadline approaching on Friday, Clarke faces the task of finalizing his 26-man squad before Scotland’s opening match against hosts Germany on June 14, followed by clashes against Switzerland and Hungary in the group stage.
