Sancho and Reus Propel Borussia Dortmund into Champions League Quarterfinals

Borussia Dortmund secured their spot in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals with a 2-0 victory (3-1 on aggregate) over PSV Eindhoven at Signal Iduna Park, thanks to goals from Jadon Sancho and Marco Reus.

Dortmund made a blistering start, with Ian Maatsen testing PSV goalkeeper Walter Benitez early on. The breakthrough came in the 3rd minute when Julian Brandt set up Jadon Sancho, whose precise strike from 20 yards found the bottom corner.

PSV struggled to contain Dortmund’s attacking prowess, with Niclas Fullkrug leading the charge. Despite chances for PSV to level the score before halftime, including opportunities for Donyell Malen, Guus Til, Johan Bakayoko, and Luuk de Jong, they couldn’t find the back of the net.

After the break, Malen continued to press for a goal but was denied by Benitez. PSV’s Hirving Lozano came close to equalizing with a powerful shot that hit the post. However, it was Dortmund who extended their lead, only for a goal from Fullkrug to be disallowed for offside after a VAR review.

As PSV pushed for a late goal, Bakayoko tested Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, but it was Dortmund who sealed the win in injury time. Marco Reus calmly slotted past Benitez to send Dortmund into the quarter-finals for the first time in three years.

The victory marks a significant achievement for Dortmund and ends PSV’s Champions League campaign. PSV will now turn their focus to maintaining their unbeaten Eredivisie season, while Dortmund will look ahead to the quarter-finals with renewed confidence.
