Lebanon was defeated by Qatar in the AFC Asian Cup opening game
On Friday, January 12, the 2023 AFC Asian Cup kicked off with the host nation, Qatar, facing Lebanon in the Group A opener.
In the initial half, Qatar dominated possession, creating occasional attacking opportunities. Although a disallowed goal due to an offside frustrated them, Qatar managed to break the deadlock in the 45th minute through Akram Afif.
In the second half, Lebanon attempted to level the playing field but struggled to create significant attacking chances. In the 56th minute, Qatar extended their lead with Ali Almoez finding the net. In injury time, Afif completed a brace, sealing Qatar’s 3-0 victory over Lebanon in the AFC Asian Cup’s opening match.
