PSG to Overhaul Squad After Mbappe Departure, Says Enrique

Paris St Germain will undergo a significant overhaul this summer, with manager Luis Enrique confirming plans to bring in ‘five or six’ new signings to compensate for the departure of Kylian Mbappe, who leaves the club as its all-time leading scorer, following their French Cup victory.

Enrique, who coached Mbappe during his final season at PSG, acknowledged the challenge of bidding farewell to the French striker after his remarkable seven-year tenure, during which he amassed a record 256 goals and helped secure 15 titles, including six league championships.

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Enrique stressed the importance of the off-season in preparing the squad to meet the high expectations, acknowledging that no single player could directly replace the influence of the French captain, heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid.

“It’s been a privilege to work with Kylian this season. After seven incredible years at the club and all that he has achieved, saying goodbye is never easy,” remarked Enrique during a press conference.

“While Mbappe’s departure leaves a void, it’s a challenge that the team, along with new signings – possibly four, five, or six – will collectively address.”

PSG’s primary objective remains clinching the coveted Champions League title, despite their substantial investment in the squad. Enrique emphasized the club’s determination to make history in Europe’s premier competition, acknowledging the ongoing negotiations to strengthen the squad for the upcoming campaign.

“Securing the Champions League is our ultimate goal, and while it’s a challenging task, I believe this team has what it takes to achieve it,” Enrique asserted.

“As the season draws to a close, discussions for reinforcements have already begun. PSG remains an attractive project, and we’re committed to assembling a squad capable of meeting the demands of a top-level football club.”

In conclusion, Enrique emphasized the rigorous demands of playing for a club of PSG’s stature, highlighting the need for new arrivals to quickly adapt to the club’s ambitions and the relentless nature of elite football.
