The Liverpool striker received treatment before being substituted by Mostafa Fathi, who took on the captain’s armband from Ahmed Hegazi. Shortly after Salah’s departure, Ghana took a 1-0 lead with Mohammed Kudus’s powerful strike. Omar Marmoush leveled for Egypt, but Kudus scored his second to give Ghana the lead again. Mostafa Mohamed later equalized, and the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

Egypt’s manager, Rui Vitoria, expressed uncertainty about the severity of Salah’s injury, hoping it is not a major problem. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, already dealing with several injured players, may be concerned about Salah’s condition. Klopp, however, expressed confidence in Liverpool’s attacking options, such as Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, and Cody Gakpo, to compensate for Salah’s absence during the Africa Cup of Nations.
Klopp acknowledged the challenge of navigating through the tournament without Salah and emphasized the need for the team to adapt. Salah played the full duration of Egypt’s opening match, scoring a late equalizer in a 2-2 draw against Mozambique. Egypt currently sits second in Group B after two games and will likely require a win against Cape Verde in their final match to advance to the round of 16 in the tournament.
