If the French football player does not sign with a new team in January, he will be a free agent and depart the “Red Devils” in the summer, according to sources. The option to extend Martial’s contract by one year belongs to Manchester United. It is unlikely to occur, though. In a press conference, head coach Erik ten Hag said that the team hasn’t yet used this option.
He added that although talks between the player and the team’s agents are still going on, an extension is not expected. The French football player is currently able to hold discussions about a potential future transfer and pre-contract agreement with other clubs. Anthony Martial is expected to depart Manchester United in the summer.
Notably, Martial signed with Manchester United on September 1, 2015, the final day of the transfer window, for a transfer cost of £36 million, setting a record for a player under 20 at the time. Depending on Martial’s performance, that amount might increase to £58 million.
