Haaland Urges Manchester City to ‘Relax’ as Title Race Nears Conclusion

Erling Haaland (23) has advised his Manchester City teammates to “relax” after their 2-0 victory over Tottenham brought them closer to making English football history.

Tuesday’s win in north London, featuring two goals from Haaland, allowed City to win their game in hand and reclaim the top spot, moving two points ahead of Arsenal.

A victory at home against West Ham on Sunday will now secure City their fourth consecutive Premier League title, an unprecedented achievement in the top tier of English football.

“Yeah, fantastic mentality,” Haaland told City+. “Focus on game by game and now relax. We came here to try to win and we won.”

Haaland opened the scoring six minutes into the second half by tapping in a pass from Kevin De Bruyne and then doubled City’s lead from the penalty spot after Jeremy Doku was fouled by Pedro Porro.

Tottenham had a chance to equalize, but City reserve goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, who replaced the injured Ederson following a challenge with Cristian Romero, made a crucial save in a one-on-one situation against Son Heung-min.

“They’re a fantastic team,” Haaland said of Spurs. “Everyone knows they want to play all the time and all praise to them.

“It was really difficult, but yeah, we came here to try and win and we won. That’s my only thing and I’m happy.

“I think we were a bit nervous. I think that’s normal; there’s a lot of emotions for everyone.

“Everyone knows the situation, but it’s about not thinking too much. Try to focus on your things to do and try to win.”
