A new international competition format. FIFA intends to host the World Club Cup for Women
In 2026, FIFA is set to organize the first-ever Women’s Club World Cup in soccer. Initially, concerns were raised by UEFA officials, expressing worry about the potential impact of the tournament’s frequency on other competitions. However, recent reports from The Athletic indicate that the organizations have come to an agreement to hold the tournament once every two years.
As the 2026 Men’s World Cup is already scheduled to take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, the details regarding the location and timing of the Women’s Club World Cup are currently unclear. Additionally, the participating teams have not been disclosed.
Up until the previous year, the Men’s Club World Cup adhered to a format that included one leading team from each confederation and one representative from the host nation. However, a modification is set to take effect in 2025, with the tournament expanding to accommodate 32 teams. As a result, the specific structure of the women’s tournament is still under consideration.
Although the finer points related to the Women’s Club World Cup require further clarification, it seems that an agreement has been reached for the competition to proceed. However, official details are currently limited.
