Dorival Junior leaves Sao Paulo to ecome manager of the Brazilian National Team
The Brazilian squad said in a statement on Sunday that Dorival Junior, 61, has resigned from his position as coach of Sao Paulo to assume leadership of the national team.
On Friday, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) declared that Fernando Diniz, who was hired as an interim coach last year, had been fired to find a permanent replacement who might lead the squad to the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
According to sources who spoke to Reuters, Brazil favored Dorival for the position following the CBF’s inability to sign Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti, who opted to prolong his Real Madrid contract.
The team released a statement on X, formerly Twitter, saying, “Sao Paulo Football Club announces the departure of coach Dorival Junior, who has asked to leave to take charge of the Brazilian national team.”
After the federation failed to confirm the appointment, Reuters immediately approached the CBF for comment. 24hscore
Before moving to Sao Paulo, Dorival guided Flamengo to the Copa Libertadores title and the Brazilian Cup in 2022. In addition, he has served as a coach for Vasco da Gama, Palmeiras, Atletico Mineiro, Athletico Paranaense, and Internacional.
The statement he released described it as “the realization of a personal dream, which was only possible because I received recognition for the work carried out in Sao Paulo.”
Julio Casares, the president of Sao Paulo, said it demonstrated the team’s health.

“The invitation to Dorival is further proof that we are on the right track,” he stated.
“All that remains is to wish him good luck in his new challenge.”
Brazil has only won two of their six games and lost three, placing them sixth in the South American World Cup qualification rankings.
Diniz was fired when Ednaldo Rodrigues was removed from office by the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice in early December and then restored as the chairman of the CBF by Federal Supreme Court (STF) minister Gilmar Mendes.
