A talented defender from Manchester United will be loaned to Benfica

Manchester United’s defender, Alvaro Fernandes, is set to continue his career at Benfica. Personal terms between the player and the clubs have been finalized, and the paperwork for the transfer is in progress.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the 20-year-old Spanish defender will join Benfica on loan until the end of the season, with the option for Benfica to make the move permanent.

Fernandes, who previously played for the youth teams of Deportivo La Coruña and Real Madrid, joined Manchester United’s academy in September 2020. In May 2022, he was named Player of the Year in Manchester United’s reserve team, receiving the Denzil Haroun Award.

Having spent the summer on loan at Granada, the Spaniard participated in 14 matches across all competitions in the first part of the current season.
