Bologna Secures Convincing Victory Over AS Roma to Solidify Fourth Place in Serie A

Bologna showcased a dominant performance on the road, clinching a 3-1 victory against AS Roma and securing a Serie A double over the Giallorossi for the first time since the 1966/67 season. The clash between two UEFA Champions League hopefuls unfolded at the Stadio Olimpico, with the hosts initially creating the more promising opportunities.

Roma’s Paulo Dybala orchestrated a chance for Stephan El Shaarawy, but the latter’s effort sailed over the bar. However, El Shaarawy’s missed opportunity came back to haunt Roma as Bologna seized the lead in the 14th minute. Oussama El Azzouzi showcased his prowess with a remarkable overhead kick, converting Riccardo Calafiori’s cross to find the back of the net via the post.

Despite Leandro Paredes’ attempt to equalize with a curling effort, Roma faced an uphill battle as Bologna surged towards the end of the first half. Joshua Zirkzee extended Bologna’s lead just before halftime, slotting the ball past the goalkeeper to give his side a comfortable advantage.

As Roma sought a swift response in the second half, El Shaarawy’s goal-bound strike was denied by Stefan Posch’s goal-line clearance. Roma manager Daniele De Rossi made tactical substitutions, introducing Rick Karsdorp, Sardar Azmoun, and Leonardo Spinazzola, in a bid to spark a comeback.

Azmoun quickly made an impact, reducing the deficit with a close-range finish. However, Roma’s hopes were dashed when Alexis Saelemaekers calmly lifted the ball over the goalkeeper to restore Bologna’s two-goal lead.

Although Santiago Castro’s effort was disallowed for offside, Bologna maintained their composure to secure the victory and consolidate their hold on fourth place in the Serie A standings. The defeat leaves Roma trailing by seven points in fifth position.
