Bayern pays tribute to Beckenbauer

VIDEO: Bayern broke a record and honored Beckenbauer

On January 12th, a Bundesliga fixture in its 17th round unfolded between Bayern Munich and Hoffenheim, culminating in a resounding 3-0 triumph for the Munich outfit.

The hosts, Bayern Munich, saw goals from Jamal Musiala in the 18th and 70th minutes, while Harry Kane sealed the victory with a goal in the 90th minute. In the 74th minute, the referee handed a red card to Grischa Prömel from the visiting Hoffenheim team.

Prior to the kickoff, Bayern Munich paid homage to the recently departed club legend, Franz Beckenbauer, who passed away on January 8th at the age of 78. In a poignant gesture, the German champions took the field wearing shirts adorned with the inscription “Danke Franz,” translating to “Thank you, Franz.” The sentiment was further echoed through photos of Beckenbauer and the same expression displayed on advertising boards and the stadium scoreboard. Before the commencement of the match, both teams observed a minute of silence in memory of Beckenbauer.

This poignant encounter against Hoffenheim also saw Bayern Munich etch their name in the Bundesliga history books by setting a new record, scoring in their 65th consecutive home game.

A noteworthy highlight was Leroy Sané’s stellar performance, providing crucial assists for Jamal Musiala on two occasions during the match. Sané’s contributions were not only instrumental in the game but also marked a significant personal achievement as he became the first player across the top-7 European leagues to register 10+ assists.
