Barcelona Appoints Hansi Flick as Head Coach Until 2026

Barcelona has officially unveiled Hansi Flick (59) as their new head coach, succeeding Xavi Hernandez (44) who was recently dismissed. Flick, renowned for his coaching stints at Hoffenheim, Bayern Munich, and the German national team, has inked a deal with the Catalan club until 2026, as announced by the club on Wednesday.

The appointment of Flick comes in the wake of Barcelona’s trophyless season under Xavi’s leadership, prompting the need for a revival in the team’s fortunes.

In their statement, Barcelona emphasized Flick’s renowned coaching style characterized by high pressing, intensity, and daring play, which has earned him significant success both at the club and international levels.

Expressing his excitement, Flick stated, “It’s an honor and a dream to coach Barcelona. I look forward to working for this amazing club, surrounded by individuals who are deeply devoted to its success.”

Flick also highlighted the potential of Barcelona’s squad, emphasizing the mix of experienced players and talented youngsters. He expressed his ambition to continue the club’s tradition of winning titles, drawing from his successful tenure at Bayern Munich.

The club underscored Flick’s remarkable achievements during the 2019/20 season with Bayern, where he secured an impressive haul of six trophies.

Xavi’s departure from Barcelona was confirmed last week following a season without silverware. Initially set to depart at the end of the season, Xavi’s contract was terminated prematurely by mutual agreement between him and the club management.
