The Titans are reportedly set to appoint Bengals Offensive Coordinator Brian Callahan as their new head coach

The Tennessee Titans have reportedly identified their next head coach.

The Titans are in the final stages of securing a deal to appoint Brian Callahan, the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter’s report on Monday. Callahan had a successful second interview with the Titans on the same day, signaling a positive outcome. This hire marks the sixth head coach for the franchise since its move to Tennessee.

Callahan is taking over from Mike Vrabel, who was relieved of his duties after a six-season tenure with the Titans. The team finished the season with a 6-11 record, missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year. The Titans’ head-coaching vacancy wasn’t among the more sought-after positions during this hiring cycle, partly due to the circumstances surrounding Vrabel’s departure, as per sources informed by 24Hscore.

At 39 years old, Callahan spent the last five seasons as the Bengals’ offensive coordinator, playing a key role in guiding them to the Super Bowl in the 2021 campaign alongside quarterback Joe Burrow. Despite a 9-8 record this season and missing the playoffs after Burrow’s season-ending wrist injury, Callahan brings valuable coaching experience. He previously worked as an offensive assistant with the Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, and Oakland Raiders before joining Cincinnati. The Titans’ head-coaching position will be his first in the league.

Callahan has a history of working with accomplished quarterbacks in the league, having coached Matthew Stafford in Detroit and Peyton Manning with the Broncos, in addition to his recent collaboration with Joe Burrow in Cincinnati.

His new challenge involves revitalizing the Titans’ offense, particularly with rookie quarterback Will Levis at the helm. The team faces changes, with longtime running back Derrick Henry expected to become a free agent and unlikely to return.

Reviving the Titans’ offense is now a significant undertaking for Callahan. However, given his recent success in Cincinnati and experience with multiple Super Bowl appearances, Titans team owner Amy Adams Strunk evidently believes he is well-suited for the job.
