Brook Pulls Out of India Tour for Personal Reasons, Lawrence Named Replacement

Cricket News Update

Harry Brook, aged 24, has opted to withdraw from England’s squad for their tour of India citing personal reasons, as announced by the country’s cricket board (ECB) on Sunday. The ECB issued a statement, stating, “The Brook family respectfully requests privacy during this time.”

“In light of this, the ECB and the family kindly request the media and the public to respect their wish for privacy and refrain from intruding on their private space.”

As a replacement for Brook, Dan Lawrence, who has played 11 Tests with his last appearance in 2022, has been named in the squad.

The 26-year-old, Dan Lawrence, achieved a Test-best score of 91 against the West Indies in Bridgetown in March 2022, but he hasn’t participated in any matches since that tour. Despite not playing, he has been included in Test squads under the leadership of head coach Brendon McCullum, notably for the 2023 Ashes.

Lawrence is anticipated to join the squad in India on Monday. In light of these developments, England is now likely to field both wicketkeepers, Jonny Bairstow and Ben Foakes, in the first Test, foregoing the need to choose between them.
