Will Zhilei and Wilder square off in a boxing match?
The coach of Chinese boxer Zhang Zhilei, Sean George, has announced that a contract has been signed for a fight with Deontay Wilder. In an interview with October Red, George stated that Zhang is prepared to face Wilder, the contract for the fight has been formalized, and they are awaiting Wilder’s response.
In his statement to October Red, George mentioned, “Everyone is discussing the fight; Shelly Finkel, his manager, is talking about it, but I haven’t received any communication from Deontay Wilder himself. Until I hear from him, I’ll assume this fight won’t happen. Just sign the contract, and let’s make this fight a reality.”
Contrary to these claims, Zhang’s manager, Terry Lane, refuted the rumors in a comment to NoSmokeBoxing. Lane clarified that the contract has not been finalized, and any official information regarding it will be communicated through the appropriate channels.
It’s important to note that Deontay Wilder faced a defeat against New Zealander Joseph Parker on December 23 during a boxing event in Saudi Arabia, contending for the WBC International and WBO Intercontinental heavyweight titles.
