NBA’s French Phenom Victor Wembanyama to Compete in Paris as Spurs Face Pacers in January
French NBA sensation Victor Wembanyama, aged 20, will play in front of a home crowd in Paris when his San Antonio Spurs take on the Indiana Pacers on January 23 and 25, the NBA announced on Monday.
“Paris, get ready… we’re bringing not one, but TWO games! Spurs vs Pacers. January 23 and 25, 2025,” the NBA posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
At 7-foot-4 (2.24m), Wembanyama averaged impressive stats this season, with 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 3.6 blocks, and 1.2 steals per game, although the Spurs concluded the season with a 22-60 record, the second-lowest in the Western Conference.
The Spurs have been absent from the playoffs since 2019 and have not secured a playoff series win since 2017.
These games in Paris will be a special occasion for “Wemby”, who earned his fame in France before being selected first overall by the Spurs in the previous NBA Draft.
The games will also be part of the NBA Paris Games, which is in its fourth installment. Last season, the Cleveland Cavaliers bested the Brooklyn Nets 111-102.
Previous NBA Paris Games included Chicago defeating Detroit in 2023 and Milwaukee winning against Charlotte in 2020.
