Steph Curry is not selected to start in the NBA All-Star Game in 2024
Steph Curry, the standout player for the Golden State Warriors, has been omitted from the list of starters for the 2024 NBA All-Star Game in the Western Conference. The league’s announcement on TNT’s “Inside the NBA” pregame show on Thursday revealed that despite being second in fan voting during the third round, Curry was not selected due to factors such as player and media tabulation. The chosen Western Conference backcourt starters are Shai Gilgeous-Alexander from the Oklahoma City Thunder and Luka Dončić from the Dallas Mavericks, leaving Curry out of the starting lineup.
Curry, who has been a starter in the previous nine NBA All-Star Games, will have to anticipate the announcement of All-Star reserves on Feb. 1 after not making the starting lineup this time. The only instance he missed the midseason showcase was during the 2019-20 NBA season when a left hand injury in the fourth game sidelined him for most of the campaign.
The Western Conference starters include Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Luka Dončić, along with LeBron James as the team captain, Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns, and Nikola Jokić from the Denver Nuggets.
Despite fans ranking Curry second in voting, he ended up in the third position in player voting, trailing behind Gilgeous-Alexander and Doncic. The media’s perspective placed the two-time NBA MVP in the fourth position, behind SGA, Dončić, and Anthony Edwards from the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The 73rd NBA All-Star Game is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 18, at 5 p.m. PT, taking place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
In the Eastern Conference, the starters include Tyrese Haliburton from the Indiana Pacers, Damian Lillard from the Milwaukee Bucks, Jayson Tatum from the Boston Celtics, Giannis Antetokounmpo as the team captain, and Joel Embiid from the Philadelphia 76ers.
As the Warriors face the Kings at the Chase Center on Thursday, Curry maintains an average of 26.7 points, 5.0 assists, and 4.2 rebounds across 38 games. His shooting percentages stand at 44.6 percent from the field and 40.1 percent from beyond the arc. Given these statistics and the fans’ strong interest in watching Curry play, it is probable that he will be announced as an All-Star reserve next Thursday. However, like everyone else, he will have to wait for the official confirmation.
