NBA acknowledges officials failed to call a Draymond foul during Steph’s game-winning three against the Lakers
The NBA has acknowledged that referees overlooked a foul committed by Draymond Green during the Golden State Warriors’ 145-144 double-overtime defeat to the Los Angeles Lakers at Chase Center on Saturday night, as reported by NBC Sports Bay Area.
According to the NBA’s Last Two Minute Report released on Sunday, Green should have been called for an offensive foul for a screen he set on Lakers’ Jarred Vanderbilt. This screen created space for Stephen Curry to make a go-ahead 3-pointer with just 5.2 seconds left in the second extra period.
The NBA stated in the report, “Green (GSW) steps toward Vanderbilt (LAL) and he delivers the contact that dislodges Vanderbilt during the screen.”
Curry’s 3-pointer, securing him a game-high 46 points in the matchup, briefly propelled the Warriors to a 144-143 lead. However, with 1.2 seconds left, LeBron James was fouled and successfully made both free throws, ultimately securing the Lakers a one-point victory.
The visible frustration experienced by Curry became apparent moments after the defeat as he tore his jersey while leaving the court. The struggling Warriors have now suffered consecutive one-point losses on their home turf, bringing their record to 19-24. They are set to face NBA MVP frontrunner Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers in a highly anticipated showdown at Chase Center on Tuesday.
