Sources indicate that Smart will be out of action for approximately six weeks due to this injury. This injury marks the second significant setback for the ten-year veteran this season, having previously missed 17 games due to an injury to his left leg.

In the current season, the 29-year-old Smart has been contributing with an average of 14.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 2.1 steals per game over 20 matches.

It is noteworthy that another key player on the Memphis team, Ja Morant, is currently sidelined for the remainder of the 2023/24 season due to a serious injury – a torn labrum.
