Embiid made history for the Sixers by setting a franchise record with an impressive 70 points in a 133-123 victory against the San Antonio Spurs. Simultaneously, Towns surpassed his own record for the Timberwolves by scoring 62 points in a closely contested 128-125 loss to the Charlotte Hornets.

The current NBA MVP surpassed Wilt Chamberlain’s previous Sixers record of 68 points, reaching the historic 70-point milestone with a fast-break layup in the final two minutes of regulation.

Embiid achieved a rare milestone by becoming the ninth player in NBA history to score 70 points in a single game. Notably, this remarkable feat occurred on the 18th anniversary of Kobe Bryant’s legendary 81-point game. Furthermore, in the same game, Embiid joined the elite company of Michael Jordan as the only players to record a performance of at least 65 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists.

Towns, on the other hand, displayed an impressive first-half performance at the Target Center in Minnesota, reaching a staggering 44 points by halftime and putting him on track to surpass Kobe Bryant’s iconic 81-point game. The three-time All-Star continued his scoring prowess with an additional 14 points in the third quarter, putting him within reach of the 70-point mark.

However, Towns faced significant challenges in the fourth quarter, struggling with a 2-for-10 shooting performance that resulted in four points. Despite this, he managed to break his own franchise record of 60 points with a drive to the rim inside the final six minutes of the game.

Towns showcased an impressive shooting performance, going 21-for-35 from the field, 10-for-15 from beyond the arc, and 10-for-14 from the free-throw line. In addition to his scoring feat, he contributed eight rebounds and two assists during his 37 minutes and 55 seconds of playing time.

His remarkable achievement goes down in league history, marking him as the first player ever to accomplish the feat of making at least 10 2-pointers, 10 3-pointers, and 10 free throws in a single game.
