Stephen Curry and Jalen Brunson

Stephen Curry and Jalen Brunson lead the 2024 NBA All-Star Game reserve roster

Jalen Brunson secures a spot (could have been a starter), along with expected names like Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, and Donovan Mitchell among others.

The announcement of the reserves for the 2024 NBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis came on Thursday, showcasing the coaches’ challenge to fit over 12 deserving players into the available seven slots. This process often results in snubs, and with injuries, Commissioner Adam Silver is tasked with naming replacements – already two in the East frontcourt.

As a refresher, the fan, player, and media-voted starters are:

Eastern Conference: Tyrese Haliburton, Damian Lillard, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid, Jayson Tatum

Western Conference: Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Nikola Jokic

The All-Star reserves for each conference include:

EASTERN CONFERENCE All-STAR RESERVES:

  • Jaylen Brown (Celtics)
  • Donovan Mitchell (Cavaliers)
  • Jalen Brunson (Knicks)
  • Bam Adebayo (Heat)
  • Julius Randle (Knicks)
  • Tyrese Maxey (76ers)
  • Paolo Banchero (Magic)

Notable exclusions from the All-Star roster include Trae Young (Hawks), Kristaps Porzingis (Celtics), Mikal Bridges (Nets), Pascal Siakam (Pacers), and Derrick White (Celtics).

There are anticipated changes in the Eastern Conference roster due to injuries. Starter Joel Embiid is dealing with a meniscus injury in his right knee, and although the team hasn’t provided a specific timeline, it’s unlikely he will participate in the exhibition. Randle from the Knicks is sidelined with a dislocated shoulder, and the team has announced a re-evaluation in 2-3 weeks, making his All-Star Game appearance improbable.

This injury situation opens up opportunities for Commissioner Adam Silver to make frontcourt replacements. If he aligns with fan voting trends, potential replacements could include Jimmy Butler of the Heat and Porzingis with the Celtics, along with Mikal Bridges of the Nets.

Reserves for the Western Conference All-Star team include:

  • Anthony Davis (Lakers)
  • Kawhi Leonard (Clippers)
  • Devin Booker (Suns)
  • Anthony Edwards (Timberwolves)
  • Stephen Curry (Warriors)
  • Paul George (Clippers)
  • Karl-Anthony Towns (Timberwolves)

Prominent exclusions from the West roster are De’Aaron Fox (Kings), Lauri Markkanen (Jazz), Jamal Murray (Nuggets), Domantas Sabonis (Kings), Brandon Ingram (Pelicans), Zion Williamson (Pelicans), Rudy Gobert (Timberwolves), Alpren Şengün (Rockets), and James Harden (Clippers).

A surprising inclusion in the West reserves is Towns, while both Fox and Sabonis from the Kings missed the cut.

The All-Star Game is scheduled for Feb. 18 at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, returning to the traditional East vs. West format with four 12-minute quarters and no target scores or other alterations. It marks a return to the All-Star game’s roots in Indiana.
