MLB Recap: Phillies’ Aaron Nola Shuts Out Mets in Commanding Victory

Aaron Nola delivered a masterful performance, retiring the first 15 batters he faced en route to a dominant four-hit shutout as the Philadelphia Phillies secured a 4-0 win over the New York Mets on Tuesday.

This victory marked the Phillies’ 22nd win in 27 games, making them the first team in the majors to reach 30 victories this season. Nola (5-2) showcased his prowess with eight strikeouts and no walks, earning his sixth career complete game. Alec Bohm contributed offensively with two RBIs.

Despite a solid outing from Mets’ pitcher Jose Butto (1-3), who allowed only one hit and two runs in five innings, the Mets fell short, dropping to 1-4 in their stretch of seven consecutive games against the Atlanta Braves and the Phillies.

This defeat marked the Mets’ fourth shutout loss of the season, with Nola posing a significant threat of a no-hitter after the Braves came close to a combined no-hitter against them just days earlier.

Astros 2, Athletics 1 (10 innings)

Houston secured a walk-off victory in the 10th inning as pinch hitter Victor Caratini delivered a clutch single to centre field, driving in the decisive run against Oakland.

Alex Bregman’s homer in the fourth inning gave the Astros an early lead, but the A’s rallied to tie the game with Brent Rooker’s RBI single in the eighth. Astros’ closer Josh Hader (2-3) earned the win with two scoreless innings on the mound.
