OC Bobby Slowik

Report: Following multiple head coaching interviews, OC Bobby Slowik is returning to the Texans

Bobby Slowik is set to make a return to Houston as the offensive coordinator for the upcoming season. The agreement was reached earlier this week with the Texans, and Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reported that Slowik secured a substantial raise as part of the deal. This decision follows Slowik’s interviews with various teams for head coaching positions in the past few weeks.

Jerrod Johnson, the Texans quarterbacks coach, is expected to continue in his current role for the upcoming season, as reported by the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Despite drawing interest for open offensive coordinator positions, Johnson will remain with the Texans in his current capacity.

Bobby Slowik, who joined the Texans last offseason along with head coach DeMeco Ryans, is also set to return as the offensive coordinator. Slowik previously served as the passing game coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, and he and Ryans had worked together on the 49ers’ staff for six seasons before making the move to Houston.

Slowik, aged 36, excelled with the Texans in the recent season, playing a pivotal role in transforming the franchise. The team secured a 12th position in total yards and 13th in points scored across the league, marking a significant improvement. Under Slowik’s guidance, the Texans made their way to the postseason for the first time since 2019. The collaboration with rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud was particularly successful, with Stroud achieving an impressive 4,108 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and just five interceptions in a historic rookie year.

Following the Texans’ playoff exit, Slowik garnered interest from multiple teams, including the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks, and Washington Commanders. With only the Commanders and Seahawks positions remaining open, Slowik is poised to return to Houston for another season. While he is likely to be a strong contender for a head coaching position next year, Slowik currently has a solid foundation in Houston and is well-positioned to continue building on the team’s success.
