At the young age of 21, Stanfield’s untimely death has deeply saddened the university community.

University President Elizabeth Davis conveyed the heartbreaking news in a letter to the community, expressing that Stanfield passed away surrounded by his loved ones and his Furman family. The junior defensive tackle, who had been a vital part of the team for three years, collapsed during the workout and was immediately rushed to the hospital. He played a crucial role in helping the Paladins achieve a remarkable 10-3 record and clinch the 2023 Southern Conference championship title.
