Max Langenhan stays unbeaten in the World Cup, leading Germany’s success in Winterberg and expressing joy at the win
Max Langenhan of Germany proved to be an unstoppable force in luge in 2023, and he carried that form into his first World Cup appearance in Winterberg in 2024. The 24-year-old won his 10th straight World Cup, and his fourth this year, defeating Dominik Fischnaller of Italy and Kristers Aparjods of Latvia. More glory for Germany as Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal won the team relay.
Max Langenhan extended his luge dominance with a 10th consecutive World Cup singles win in Winterberg. The 24-year-old German, boasting 12 career World Cup victories, narrowly missed breaking his track record in the impressive start to 2024.
Dominik Fischnaller of Italy secured second place, while Latvia’s Kristers Aparjods claimed third after mistakes from Jonas Mueller and Wolfgang Kindl.
Despite falling short of setting a new track record, Langenhan expressed, “I would have loved to give the track workers a track record, but it wasn’t their fault that it didn’t work out; it was mine.” He finished less than two-tenths of a second off his record time from a year ago, admitting, “I was too bad at the start and on the track. Nevertheless, I’m happy to have won.”
Langenhan concluded the previous season with six successive World Cup victories and has now triumphed in all four of the opening races in the current season.
“Max is unbeatable right now; he simply doesn’t make errors,” stated Fischnaller.
Langenhan currently holds a 70-point lead over Mueller in the overall standings as they head to the next stage in Innsbruck next weekend.
In the team relay, Germany continued its success as Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal secured another title, maintaining their victory from Whistler last month. The margin of victory was exceptionally close, with Austria trailing by just over four-hundredths of a second, and the US team securing third place.
