Lecce Appoints Luca Gotti as Coach After Roberto D’Aversa’s Dismissal for Headbutt Incident

Following the dismissal of Roberto D’Aversa due to an altercation involving a head-butt with Hellas Verona’s Thomas Henry, Lecce has announced the appointment of Luca Gotti as the new coach until the end of the season. The decision comes after D’Aversa was sacked on Monday in the aftermath of Lecce’s 1-0 home defeat last weekend.

In an official statement released by the club on Wednesday, Lecce confirmed the appointment of Luca Gotti as the head coach of the first team. Gotti, who has previously managed Udinese and most recently served as the coach of Spezia last season, has signed an agreement with Lecce until June 30, 2024, with the possibility of renewal in the event of the club avoiding relegation.

Gotti’s coaching tenure at Spezia ended amid relegation troubles last season, but he now assumes the responsibility of steering Lecce away from the relegation zone in Serie A. Lecce currently sits 16th in the league standings with 25 points, just one point above the relegation zone. Their next fixture sees them facing bottom-placed Salernitana on Saturday.

The appointment of Gotti marks a significant transition for Lecce as they aim to stabilize their position in Serie A and overcome the recent turmoil surrounding D’Aversa’s departure. With the season entering its crucial phase, Gotti’s leadership and tactical acumen will be put to the test as Lecce strives to secure their top-flight status and build a platform for long-term success.
