Dillian Whyte’s Boxing Career Cleared Following Contaminated Supplement Incident, According to Sky Sports Report
British boxer Dillian Whyte, aged 35, has been given the green light to resume his professional boxing career after it was revealed that a positive drug test last year was due to contamination from a dietary supplement, as reported by Sky Sports on Sunday.
Whyte faced a devastating setback when an “adverse finding” from a random doping test conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association forced the cancellation of his highly anticipated heavyweight bout against fellow Briton Anthony Joshua, aged 34, scheduled for August last year.
However, a thorough investigation into the matter has concluded that Whyte fell victim to contamination of a nutritional supplement, as disclosed by Sky Sports. According to the broadcaster, documentation reveals that a forensic expert determined Whyte’s innocence, attributing the positive test result to a contaminated supplement that did not disclose the presence of the contaminant among its ingredients.
Reuters, however, could not independently verify the specifics of the investigation.
Whyte, who trains in the United States and holds a license from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, was not immediately available for comment. Despite the setback, Whyte remained resolute in his pursuit of justice, expressing his frustration and disappointment at the ordeal.
“It’s been really tough because I knew I was innocent, but then you can’t talk, you can’t say anything,” Whyte shared with Sky Sports.
“You have to be professional, trust the process, trust the lawyers and trust the people around you. It’s been tough, but tough times make tough men.”
The incident not only took an emotional toll on Whyte but also had significant financial repercussions, with the cancellation of the bout costing him dearly. Most notably, it deprived him of the opportunity to face Joshua in the ring, a momentous matchup that held immense significance for his career.
“I’m relieved more than anything, but of course, I’m angry as well because it’s cost me so much,” Whyte admitted.
“The most important thing is it cost me the chance to beat AJ (Joshua). Everything else after that is secondary, but you know it’s a mix of emotions.”
In the absence of the anticipated bout, Joshua proceeded to face Finnish boxer Robert Helenius, securing victory with a seventh-round knockout.
Whyte also revealed his intention to seek damages from the company responsible for manufacturing the contaminated supplement, aiming to recoup the financial losses incurred and reclaim redemption for his career.
“I’ve lost a lot of money and we’re seeking damages for all the money I’ve lost, try to get some sort of redemption for my career,” Whyte affirmed.
