Holger Rune Reunites with Mouratoglou: A New Chapter in the Tennis Journey
In a significant development in the world of tennis, Holger Rune (20) has opted to reunite with former coach Patrick Mouratoglou after parting ways with Boris Becker and Severin Luthi. The decision comes on the heels of a disappointing Australian Open campaign that saw Rune’s partnership with Becker and Luthi come to an end.
Rune’s association with German legend Becker began in October, with the addition of Roger Federer’s former mentor Luthi to his coaching team preceding the 2024 season. However, the collaboration failed to yield the desired results, culminating in Rune’s early exit from the Australian Open after a defeat to French wildcard Arthur Cazaux in the second round.

Having previously tasted success under Mouratoglou’s tutelage, including a memorable victory over world number one Novak Djokovic at the 2022 Paris Masters, Rune expressed his decision to return to familiar territory. In a statement shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Rune reflected on the importance of experimentation in finding the right coaching setup.
“Sometimes you must try a variety of things to find out what works for you and what does not,” Rune remarked. “In the recent months, I have learned a lot about what’s important for me. With Patrick, I achieved some of my greatest triumphs, and I believe he can help me achieve my goals.”
Mouratoglou, renowned for his expertise and experience in guiding tennis prodigies to success, expressed his enthusiasm about rejoining forces with Rune.
“We have known each other since he was 13 years old, and I always believed in his potential,” Mouratoglou stated. “He has high goals, and so do I for him. It’s the start of a new adventure.”
As Rune and Mouratoglou embark on this new chapter in their professional relationship, tennis enthusiasts await their upcoming appearances in tournaments such as Acapulco, Indian Wells, and Miami, eagerly anticipating the impact of their renewed collaboration on the court.
