NFL Divisional Playoffs: Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs upset the Bills to advance to the AFC Championship Game
The Kansas City Chiefs secured their spot in the AFC championship game with a narrow 27-24 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night at Highmark Stadium. The game remained intense throughout, featuring a back-and-forth battle between quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. In the final moments, Allen led the Bills into scoring position just before the two-minute warning. However, the turning point came when Tyler Bass missed a crucial 44-yard field goal wide right, preventing a tie and securing the Chiefs’ win. This marks the Chiefs’ sixth consecutive appearance in the conference championship game.
With that, Mahomes and the Chiefs managed to secure a three-point victory, solidifying yet another appearance in the AFC title game.
In the playoffs of both 2021 and 2022, these two teams faced off, resulting in losses for the Bills—once in the AFC championship game and once in the divisional round. Despite being the home team this time, with a chance at the AFC championship on the line, the Bills couldn’t turn the tables.
The Chiefs will now progress to face the top-seeded Baltimore Ravens next week at M&T Bank Stadium, aiming for a return trip to Super Bowl LVIII.
