Coco Gauff Acknowledges Serve Adjustments Require Patience Amid Double Faults

At the Italian Open, American tennis player Coco Gauff (20) has faced a challenge with her serve, accumulating 35 double faults across three matches. Despite this, the world number three expressed confidence that the technical adjustments she’s made to her serve will eventually settle in.

While a potent serve is a formidable weapon in tennis, Gauff, the U.S. Open champion, has encountered difficulties with her delivery during the clay swing. Her struggles have been evident, with an average of nearly 10 double faults in the five matches leading up to the Rome tournament.

In her recent match against Paula Badosa, Gauff tallied 11 more double faults in a hard-fought victory. However, reflecting on her performance and progress, Gauff mentioned that she’s already witnessing improvements ahead of the French Open, set to commence on May 26th.

Acknowledging the risk of going big on her first serve, Gauff emphasized the importance of finding a balance between power and consistency. Despite her desire to win the current tournament, Gauff is also considering the long-term implications, aiming not to compromise her potential by holding back on her powerful serves.

Gauff’s coach Brad Gilbert, along with Jean-Christophe Faurel, continues to support her through these technical adjustments. Gauff highlighted the challenge of refining her serve during the ongoing season and tournament, acknowledging the difficulty of implementing changes in such circumstances.

Despite the short timeframe between matches, Gauff remains optimistic about the progress she’s making, noting improvements in just two days. She’s committed to the process of refining her serve, demonstrating her determination to evolve and overcome challenges on the court.
