Getafe Eager to Retain Manchester United Loanee Mason Greenwood

Getafe President Angel Torres has voiced the club’s keenness to extend Mason Greenwood’s (22) loan tenure for another season, signaling their expectation that the forward will not return to Manchester United at the conclusion of the ongoing campaign.

Greenwood embarked on his loan spell with Getafe last September, a move initiated by Manchester United to shield him from potential distractions amid resolved legal matters. Despite initial concerns, Greenwood has demonstrated his prowess by netting 10 goals in 32 appearances across various competitions, helping Getafe secure a 10th-place position in LaLiga.

Torres affirmed that Greenwood, along with the club and his family, is inclined towards prolonging the loan agreement. However, uncertainties loom over the situation with Manchester United. Recent discussions between Getafe’s sporting director and United officials during a visit to England hinted at the possibility of United entertaining offers for Greenwood’s permanent transfer, suggesting a minimal chance of him being recalled.

The final verdict on Greenwood’s future is anticipated by the end of June. Nevertheless, Torres emphasized the satisfaction of both the fans and the coach with Greenwood’s contributions, expressing optimism about his potential continued presence at Getafe, potentially extending until January or beyond.

United’s co-owner, Jim Ratcliffe, previously indicated that no conclusive decision had been reached regarding Greenwood’s future. Additionally, LaLiga president Javier Tebas has conveyed his desire for Greenwood to extend his stay in Spain.
