MLB Wrap-up: Walk-off Wins and Pitching Gems
Mariners Walk-off Braves in Epic Pitchers’ Duel
The Seattle Mariners edged out the Atlanta Braves 2-1 in a thrilling pitchers’ duel that went down to the wire. Both starting pitchers, Max Fried and Bryce Miller, were locked in a scoreless battle for six innings before Atlanta’s Ronald Acuña Jr. broke the no-hitter in the seventh. However, the hero of the night was Seattle’s Mitch Garver, who launched a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to secure the victory.
Cubs Rally for Dramatic Win Over Mets
The Chicago Cubs stunned the New York Mets with a come-from-behind victory. Mets starter Luis Severino held the Cubs hitless until the eighth inning, but Chicago clawed their way back. Christopher Morel delivered the knockout blow with a two-run homer in the top of the ninth, giving the Cubs a surprising 3-1 win.
Orioles Blank Yankees Behind Strong Pitching
The Baltimore Orioles shut out the New York Yankees 2-0. Gunnar Henderson provided the offensive spark with a solo homer, while starting pitcher Grayson Rodriguez delivered a dominant performance, allowing just five hits over 5 2/3 innings. The Yankees, who had scored in bunches recently, were unable to break through against Baltimore’s pitching staff.
Rays Pitch Past Brewers
The Tampa Bay Rays blanked the Milwaukee Brewers 1-0 on the strength of a stellar pitching performance. Ryan Pepiot tossed six scoreless innings, and three relievers combined to shut the door on the Brewers. The lone run of the game came in the first inning on a double-play grounder.
