Ancelotti warns Real Madrid to respect Bayern Munich

Ahead of their Champions League semi-final first leg in Munich, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti warned his players against underestimating Bayern Munich despite their recent Bundesliga shortcomings.

While Bayern relinquished their 11-year domestic dominance to Bayer Leverkusen, Ancelotti emphasized their European pedigree. He highlighted their impressive Champions League run, including a convincing aggregate victory over Arsenal, and their motivation to claim the only remaining trophy this season.

“We’re not overconfident despite being favorites,” Ancelotti stated. “They may not have had a great Bundesliga season, but they proved their European strength against a strong Arsenal team.”

He acknowledged that Champions League history favors both teams, but Real Madrid also boasts a strong record with 14 titles. The Spanish giants are also on the verge of a La Liga title with a substantial lead.

Ancelotti compared the tactical flexibility of both teams, highlighting their ability to adapt and pose unexpected challenges. He acknowledged Bayern’s dangerous attacking transitions and their desire to send departing coach Thomas Tuchel off on a high note.

“We’re similar teams without a rigid style,” Ancelotti explained. “They can change their approach and can be very dangerous on the attack.”

However, he emphasized the importance of this being a two-legged tie. Real Madrid approaches the match with confidence, but they recognize the quality and individual talent within the Bayern squad.

The manager remained tight-lipped about his team selection for the crucial first leg, with the biggest question mark surrounding Antonio Rudiger’s central defensive partner.

Aurelien Tchouameni has impressed in a defensive role during the absence of injured center-backs Eder Militao and David Alaba. While Militao recently made his first start of the season, Ancelotti kept the selection a mystery.
