Tyson vs. Paul Set for Sanctioned Pro Fight with Unique Rules

Boxing legend Mike Tyson (57) and social media star Jake Paul (27) are confirmed for a professional fight on July 20 in Arlington, Texas. This unexpected clash will be streamed live on Netflix and go down in history as the biggest age gap fight in professional boxing.

The heavyweight bout will take place at the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium and span eight, two-minute rounds. Notably, both fighters will wear heavier 14-ounce gloves compared to the standard 10-ounce for professional fights.

This fight initially sparked debate as an exhibition due to Tyson’s age. However, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR) officially sanctioned it as a professional contest, meaning there will be judges and a definitive winner. Traditionally, exhibition bouts lack judges and can only end in knockouts.

“Iron Mike” Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) hasn’t stepped into the ring since his 2020 exhibition draw against Roy Jones Jr. At 58, he’ll face a much younger opponent in Jake Paul (9-1, 6 KOs).

The undercard features a highly anticipated rematch between Katie Taylor (23-1, 6 KOs) and Amanda Serrano (46-2-1, 30 KOs) for the lightweight title. Their first encounter in April 2022 resulted in a close split decision win for Taylor.
