The veteran leader of the Memphis basketball team, Marcus Smart, has encountered a setback with an injury to the index finger of his right hand, as reported by The Athletic. Sources indicate that Smart will be out of action for approximately six weeks due to this injury. The incident took place in the third quarter of the game against the Dallas Mavericks, a match that Memphis ultimately won with a score of 120-103. This injury marks the second significant setback for the ten-year veteran this season, having previously missed 17 games due to an injury to his left leg.
In the current season, the 29-year-old Smart has been contributing with an average of 14.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 2.1 steals per game over 20 matches.
It is noteworthy that another key player on the Memphis team, Ja Morant, is currently sidelined for the remainder of the 2023/24 season due to a serious injury – a torn labrum.
As of now, Memphis holds the 13th position in the Western Conference with a record of 14-23. Their upcoming schedule includes three away games against the Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks, and Golden State Warriors.
