Timo Werner from Leipzig has been signed by Tottenham on a loan until the end of the season
RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, 27, has joined Tottenham Hotspur on loan until the end of the season, with an option to buy, the Premier League club announced on Tuesday. Werner is making a return to the English top flight after spending two years at Chelsea, where he featured in 89 matches, scored 23 goals, and contributed to the team’s successes in the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup.
The Germany international rejoined his former club Leipzig in 2022 but has seen limited action with only eight Bundesliga appearances this season. Werner’s move to Tottenham could provide valuable cover for the club’s forward line, particularly with their top scorer, Son Heung-min, currently away at the Asian Cup representing South Korea.
As of now, Spurs hold the fifth position in the Premier League standings with 39 points, trailing six points behind league leaders Liverpool.
